LINES OF INTERESTOCTOBER
2011 SOPHIE EICHNER This show was one to remember, and will withstand time as being one of the most ambitious solo exhibitions in the history of our program. Sophie Eichner explored line, color, shape, form, texture, rhythm, pattern, and scale in a way no other student has attempted thus far in the DRHSART program. Not only did she manage to pull this off before graduation, but she exhibited in October. Artist Statement:\nStraight lines do not exist in nature. They are only found when constructed by humans; physically or metaphorically. I create these lines to make order, to find order, to solidify the ambiguous nature of my thoughts. Ever a childish notion, the need to make sense o f an uncertain world, it is one that I still hang onto. Does everything need to be concrete…? Recognizing that it’s a foolish to believe that everything needs to make sense, I still feel this need. To lose this crutch would mean to forego my grip on reality, my reality; however unreal it might be. |
