GOOD MORNING!FEBRUARY
2020 Tasha Moritz Each piece of art I make reveals something about my past or present. Who I’m close to, what I feel, and who I am are depicted through symbols and ingrained into the wood I work on. This symbolism allows me the chance to look back on past work and see a growth in my values and character.
Transitioning from working with primarily paints and chalk pastels, I have a newfound love for pyrography. A more close encounter with the work, I can smell the wood burning and artistry being created, allowing me to feel more connected to the process. This process itself is reminiscent of my father as I use his old wood-burning kit he used as a child. Having him with me while creating my work further adds to the emotional meaning behind my art. As I get older and have a greater understanding of my values, the symbols in my art reflect what is most important to me at that time. I hope to evoke an emotional response from the viewer that allows them to feel the same feelings of nostalgia and acceptance that I have while making my work. |
